CarmelValleyBombScareSAN DIEGO — Bomb technicians were called to a gas station carwash in the Carmel Valley area Thursday after a suspicious box was found there.

Officers found a box containing suspicious material at the Shell station at 3861 Valley Center Drive. They closed off the gas station until they determined that the box did not pose an immediate threat. Officers said the box may have been dropped off as part of a hoax.

The bomb squad removed the box for further analysis and the gas station reopened at about 10:45 a.m.
