LAKESIDE, Calif. – Hundreds of mourners gathered in Lakeside Tuesday to pay their respects to the two young fishing enthusiasts killed in a boating accident.

Russell Mendez, 20 and 21-year-old Jeff Ingram were killed Thursday when a speeding boat slammed into their boat at El Capitan Reservoir, according to investigators.

The memorial was filled with raw emotion and loving speeches. The crowds of friends and family remembered Russell’s huge smile and Ingram’s devotion to his sport of fishing.

The tears turned to shouting chants and outbursts of cheering in an expression of confused exhaustion.

“They would give you the shirt off their backs,” said Jake Poston, a close friend. “We have a sickening feeling in our hearts that the driver responsible won’t ever be charged with a crime.”

Authorities have not disclosed whether they will file charges against the driver of the other boat.
