SAN DIEGO — The county of San Diego collected on an all-time record of 99.1 percent of its property tax bills, representing income of $4.77 billion, county Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister announced Thursday.

He said he’s “ecstatic” that the collection rate topped the 98.9 percent two recorded two years ago.

“It is evident that property owners are placing great importance on protecting their real estate investments,” McAllister said. “Add to this an improving economy, and all of a sudden our San Diego County collection rates have hit a new mark.”

He also touted efforts his office is making to improve collection rates and serve customers.

Nearly 982,000 tax bills were mailed to San Diego County property owners last October, according to the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office.
