I-15 Bus Crash

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — A crash involving a big-rig, a bus and several other vehicles created a major traffic jam on southbound Interstate 15 through Escondido Tuesday morning.

I-15 Bus CrashThe crash happened at about 9:20 a.m. just south of Via Rancho Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Helicopter video showed a damaged bus and a big rig stoppend on the shoulder of the freeway and several damaged passenger vehicles in the No. 4 lane. Traffic was passing the accident scene slowly, but vehicles were backup up to the north for several miles.

 Medics took at least one person to Palomar Medical Center for treatment, but there was no information available about the severity of the victim’s injuries.

The carpool lane and another southbound lane were closed, along with the onramps from Via Rancho Parkway and Del Lago Boulevard, and a SigAlert was issued, according to the CHP.

By 11:20 a.m., everything except the Via Rancho Parkway onramp to the freeway had reopened, but traffic on southbound I-15 remained backed up.
