3 injured in vehicle crash near Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Three pedestrians were hit by a vehicle on the old coast highway in central Carlsbad in the midnight hour, and the most-seriously injured one was rushed by helicopter to a hospital.

Fire paramedics from Carlsbad and Oceanside and Carlsbad police were sent to the crash at 12:46 a.m., in the 3200 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, north of Walnut Avenue, police Cpl. Mike Bolton said.

The other two pedestrians were taken to hospitals by ambulance, Bolton said. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Bolton said two of the pedestrians were 29-year-old women and one was a 31-year-old man.

According to Bolton, “The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrians was a 49-year-old woman who remained on scene of the crash and was not arrested.”

The incident remains under investigation.
