SAN DIEGO — Construction crews were cleaning up Thurday after hitting a water main on Genesee Avenue in University City.

A contractor was  digging to work on an 18-inch sewer pipe at Genesee Avenue and Decoro street Wednesday night at about 10:45 p.m. when workers hit an unmarked water pipe,  according to city Public Utilities Department spokesman Arian Collins.

Residents and businesses in the 4100 block of Decoro Street had no water service, but water trucks were brought in, Collins said.

As of 8 a.m. Thursday, water was still out in some buildings in the area– but crews expect to have everything restored in a few hours.
