Bank robber makes off with loot in lunchbox

ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Authorities Friday released surveillance photos in hopes of identifying a man who robbed a bank branch inside an Escondido supermarket.

Escondido Supermarket Bank RobberThe suspect placed an open lunch box and a demand note on the counter at the U.S. Bank branch inside the Albertsons store at 1509 E. Valley Parkway about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according to FBI spokeswoman Emily Yeh. The robber also verbally demanded money.

Yeh said no weapon was seen during the robbery.

Witnesses described the robber as a clean-shaven white man in his late 40s to early 50s, 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing sunglasses, a floppy hat, T-shirt and jeans.
