SAN DIEGO — Priest Jeffrey Newell has been suspended by the Catholic Church for sexually abusing children in Tijuana. This is the second time Newell has been sanctioned for his actions.

Priest Jeffrey NewellYears ago, Newell was involved in the Los Angeles sexual abuse scandal. His victims were promised he’d never be allowed near children ever again. It turns out he had been working in a Tijuana church since 2010.

After a number of allegations, a team of Vatican investigators arrived in Tijuana to look into complaints against Newell and 17 other priests. Seven of them, including Newell, were relieved of their duties.

With disciplinary action pending, Newell fled Tijuana and is reportedly back in California, possibly San Diego.

Richard Sipe, who has researched priest abuse for decades, says the Catholic Church continues to shuffle predator priests, only now, exporting the problem to Latin American countries such as Mexico.

“Offending priests are getting sent internationally, Mexico gets a great deal of this kind of influx, said Sipe.

Hopefully this child predator priest will not get far. And hopefully he will be kept far away from children forever.
It takes a lot of courage to speak up and take action about being sexually abused. This is not an easy thing to do, but it is extremely rare that a child predator has only one or two victims. Some have many. It's never too late to come forward about being sexually abused. So let's hope that anyone who may have knowledge or may have been harmed by Fr Jeffrey Newell or anyone in the Tijuana’s Archdiocese, will find the courage to speak up, get help, and contact law enforcement, no matter when it happened.
Your silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others

And the Catholic Church.wonders why it has a shady reputation… They need to lock these priests that violates children and public trust. I’m not saying that religion is bad but it’s make it more difficult to believe in religion.

Just heard that investigators have not located a single child who claims abuse, and Fr. Newell is again celebrating mass in Tijuana. I wonder where he goes now to redeem his reputation after such an inflammatory, one-side, article.
