Evacuations ordered in western Escondido

PaseoTierra2ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Authorities have ordered people living along the western edge of Escondido to evacuate as the Cocos Fire heads their way.

All residents living north and west of West Valley Parkway between Via Rancho Parkway and Highway 78 have been ordered to evacuate.

The evacuations were ordered after the fire jumped Country Club Drive and began moving east toward Escondido.

County officials used AlertSanDiego to contact about 13,000 homes and businesses in the Harmony Grove and western Escondido area. Escondido police used the same system to alert about 7,500 contacts in the city’s jurisdiction.

Evacuated residents can go to Mission Hills High School at 1 Mission Hills Court or Escondido High School at 1535 North Broadway.
