Wildfire blackens riverbed in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A wildfire blackened about 40 acres in the bed of the San Luis Rey River Wednesday and damaged a single structure, authorities reported.

fire-hoseThe blaze erupted east of College Boulevard in Oceanside in the early afternoon, according to fire department officials.

Police evacuated residences on Andrew Jackson Street and surrounding roads and closed some traffic lanes while firefighters doused the flames.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
