Police chase wanted felon through North County roads

SAN DIEGO — A wanted felon led authorities Wednesday on a North County road chase during which several vehicles, including a deputy’s squad car, got damaged in collisions, authorities reported.

The pursuit began about 2:30 p.m. as personnel from the Vista Sheriff’s Station and members of the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force were attempting to arrest Julio Cruz.

sheriffWhile tailing the 42-year-old suspect, a cruiser with its lights and sirens activated was hit by another car at Hacienda and South Emerald drives in Vista. Two other collisions also occurred during the chase, but no injuries were reported.

Cruz eventually bailed out of the vehicle he was driving and ran off in the 4200 block of Tiberon Drive in Oceanside. Authorities fanned out through the area and arrested the suspect shortly before 5 p.m., according to sheriff’s officials.

It was not immediately clear why Cruz was being sought.
