SAN DIEGO – The classic 80s movie “Top Gun” inspired San Diego mayors – current and former – to recreate a famous scene.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer and former iMayor Todd Gloria take on the roles of Goose and Maverick, respectively, while taking orders from Commander Mike “Viper” Metcalf, played by former mayor Jerry Sanders.

Sanders challenges Faulconer and Gloria to make the “Top Mayors” plaque and makes a reference to Bob Filner’s arrogance.

The annual parody video promotes the 19th annual Gold Fleece and Watchdog Awards scheduled for June.

The award ceremony recognizes organizations for their work to help save taxpayers money.
