BONITA SWAT STANDOFFBONITA, Calif. — A 29-year-old man was jailed Monday on suspicion of assaulting his wife before barricading himself in the couple’s Bonita apartment, prompting an hours-long SWAT standoff, authorities said.

James Kang allegedly assaulted his wife in the 2900 block of Briarwood Sunday night, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Lt. Mark Ryan.

She managed to escape their apartment and called a friend for help, and at 9:10 p.m. deputies were notified of allegations and went to talk to Kang, Ryan said in a statement.

Kang was uncooperative and armed with knives, but eventually surrendered following a three-hour conversation with crisis negotiators.

Kang was arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of felony domestic violence.
