FRESNO, Calif. — Two California Highway Patrol officers were killed Monday when they crashed south of Fresno while speeding to another accident on a Highway 99.

The accident happened at about 6 a.m. near the town of Kingsburg, according to CHP Officer Axel Reyes. A CHP official said officers careened into a guardrail after they suddenly came upon a crash that they thought would be on the opposite side of the 99 Freeway

Officers Juan Gonzalez, 33 and Brian Law, 34, were killed in the crash, according to a post on the CHP Facebook page.

Accident investigators said the roads were not slick from rain and there was not fog at the time of the crash. The cause of the single-car accident was under investigation.
