Police trace shooting to South Bay parking lot

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A man who showed up at a Chula Vista hospital with a gunshot wound in the shoulder was shot in the parking lot of a Chula Vista apartment complex early Monday, police said.

Chula Vista Parking Lot ShootingAt about 5:15 a.m., police received reports of gunfire in the 200 block of East Orange Avenue, Chula Vista police Lt. Kenny Heinz said.

About 15 minutes later, officers got a call from hospital emergency room personnel reporting that a man had just been dropped off with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, Heinz said.

A woman had dropped the wounded man off in the parking lot and drove off, but later returned and was talking to investigators, he said.

When officer first investigated the shooting report, they weren’t able to find evidence of gunfire, but when they returned, they discovered possible evidence in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the area.
