Downtown checkpoint nets 11 arrests

dui check pointsSAN DIEGO – San Diego police and California Highway Patrol officers arrested 11 suspected drunken drivers at or near a downtown checkpoint that wrapped up early Saturday.

Between 11:07 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m., 932 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the 1500 block of Fifth Avenue near Beech Street, of which 652 were screened, according to San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough.

In addition to the 11 drunken driving arrests, one driver was cited for driving with a suspended license, McCullough said.
