The Naval Criminal Investigative Service says the suspect may be another Marine. The attack happened on the base Saturday morning.

Both Marines are with the 1st Marine Logistics Group.

Hammonds former co-worker Melanie Barbarian said she was in disbelief of the attack.

“It’s heartbreaking, she’s a great girl,” Barbarian said.

Hammonds is able to talk and recovering with family members who traveled to San Diego to be by her side.
