Tree trimmer’s truck crashes into Scripps Ranch home

SAN DIEGO — An unoccupied runaway truck rolled down a sloping street in Scripps Ranch Wednesday afternoon, striking a pedestrian and a car before crashing to a halt into a home.

The accident in the 10200 block of Mesa Madera Drive was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

tree-trimmerMedics took the injured person to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of what appeared to be serious injuries, SDFRD spokesman Maurice Luque said.

Emergency crews deactivated a natural gas line ruptured in the crash and sent for a city building inspector to determine whether the damaged residence was habitable pending repairs, Luque said.

The circumstances that led to the accident were not immediately clear.
