Escondido woman dies after getting hit by driver

ESCONDIDO, Calif. – A woman reported to be walking in a road minutes before she was fatally struck Christmas Eve was identified Wednesday as a 40-year-old Escondido woman.

fatal-crash-grpTalenna Lucy was on Lake Wohlford Road just outside the Escondido city limits and north of Oakvale about 9 p.m. when she was struck by a southbound 2010 Toyota Yaris, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office and CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt.

“A 67-year-old Escondido man driving the Yaris observed someone walking in the middle of the road and attempted to swerve to the left, but could not prior to striking the pedestrian with the right front of his vehicle,” Bettencourt said. “The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.”

The Yaris driver was uninjured, he said.

Someone called 911 a few minutes before the fatal crash to report a woman walking in the roadway, Bettencourt said.
