SAN DIEGO — The identities of the man and woman shot near the Westfield Mission Valley Mall early Christmas Eve morning were released by San Diego police Wednesday.
Ilona Flint and Salvatore Belvedere, both 22-years-old and from San Diego, were shot in the Macy’s parking lot early Tuesday morning, according to San Diego police.
Flint called 911 around 1:15 a.m. and told police she’d been shot in the head, police said. They found her body and Belvedere in a dark sedan parked in the lot.
Belvedere was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso and remained in very critical condition Wednesday evening.
“One of the problems we have in this case is we’re not able to talk to our victims. So, we’re having to put things together,” said SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings.
Family members said Belvedere’s brother, Gianni, was with the two victims at the mall earlier that night, but relatives have not seen him since.
Relatives posted messages on social media sites asking for information about the shooting and the whereabouts of Gianni.
Police have not provided a motive for the shooting and have not named a suspect. Anyone with information has been asked to contact SDPD’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477.
