Dogs saved in Christmas Day crash, owners hospitalized

SAN DIEGO – A Good Samaritan helped rescue two dogs involved in a rollover car crash on Interstate 15 in Escondido on Christmas Day.

Two people from inside the SUV were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, authorities said. Two dogs were thrown from the SUV and ran off.

Kelly Hanson pulled over when she saw one of the dogs running around the traffic lanes.  She helped wrangle it from the middle of the freeway.

“Then I just got out of the car and said, ‘Come here, puppy’ and she just came over,” said Hanson.

Two people were hospitalized and their dogs were rescued after the SUV they were riding in rolled over and caught fire on I-15, CHP said.

The animals will be cared for by officials with animal control, until they can be given back to their owners.

The condition of the people were unknown.
