CHULA VISTA, Calif. — Out-of-control vehicles plowed into two homes miles apart in Chula Vista over a span of about 20 minutes Tuesday afternoon, causing structural damage and natural gas leaks.

The first of the crashes occurred in the 2400 block of Eagle Valley Drive in the eastern reaches of the South Bay city about 3:40 p.m., according to police. A private tow truck was called in to get the car off the property, Lt. Buddy Magor said.

No injuries were reported, though witnesses reported a strong smell of natural gas in the area.

About 4 p.m., a vehicle smashed into a house in the 900 block of Arroyo Drive, roughly five miles southwest of the site of the earlier accident.

Minor injuries were reported, and emergency crews evacuated several nearby residences due to an apparent natural gas leak caused by the wreck, Magor said.
