Fire prompts evacuations at Lindbergh Field

SAN DIEGO – Authorities evacuated travelers from Lindbergh Field Wednesday night due to an electrical fire, officials confirmed.

Terminal 2 ExpansionSan Diego Fire-Rescue Department responded to the reports of a fire that started in the air conditioning unit at the Terminal 2’s baggage claim area around 9:30 p.m., officials said.

SDFRD official said smoke was coming from an overheated air conditioning unit and was quickly controlled.  Travelers were allowed back into the terminal by 10 p.m.

The major airlines that use Terminal 2 are Alaskan Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, United and US Airways.  The airport website did not show any significant delays during the incident.

Harbor Patrol and airport officials assisted the fire department.
