FALLBROOK, Calif. — A woman who allegedly told a 7-Eleven clerk she had a gun and demanded a pack of cigarettes was arrested as she tried to drive away from the convenience store, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
The suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Julia Martell, entered the store at 631 S. Main St. about 12:50 a.m., sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Yates said. The clerk handed over the smokes as demanded and tried but failed to activate the store’s alarm, he said.
After the suspect left the store, the clerk told a customer to notify deputies — who happened to be in the parking lot — that the store had been robbed, Yates said.
Yates said the deputies contacted Martell as she was about to drive away and arrested her on suspicion of robbery and drunken driving.
Martell is expected to be arraigned at the Vista courthouse on Tuesday afternoon.
