Robber sprays grocery clerk in the face

ClairemontRobberySAN DIEGO — A masked robber sprayed some type of chemical into the face of a clerk at a Clairemont Mesa market and ran off with a money bag containing an undisclosed amount, a police officer said Saturday.

The clerk was not injured in the robbery that occurred about 9:15 p.m. Friday, near closing time at the Balboa International Market on Balboa Avenue near Mount Alifan Drive, San Diego police Officer David Stafford said.

Police described the suspect as wearing a ski mask, a blue sweatshirt, dark jeans, a white belt and dark shoes.
