SAN DIEGO — Police arrested a 30-year-old man Wednesday while investigating reports of gunfire in a residential neighborhood in Mira Mesa.

Clinton Clark was taken into custody just after noon when he returned to his mother’s home in the 8800 block of Aquarius Drive, San Diego police St. Ed Zwibel said.

Officers were sent the neighborhood at about 10:20 a.m. after receiving several reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. They discovered .22-caliber shell casings in the backyard of a home and learned from the woman who lived there that her son had been target shooting at a pumpkin. A number of the bullets passed through the pumpkin and ended up in the yard of a neighbor, Zwibel said.

The woman told the officers that her son had left the home, but he returned shortly before noon while the officers were still there, Zwibel said. They arrested him on misdemeanor charges of shooting at a dwelling and negligent discharge of a firearm.
