SAN DIEGO — Homicide detectives were investigating the death of a 58-year-old man whose body was found on a sidewalk near San Diego’s new central library.

East-Village-FataltyOfficers were called to the 1200 block of K Street about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police Lt. Mike Hastings.

Once there, they found the victim lying on the south sidewalk and bleeding from one of his ears, the homicide lieutenant said.

“He had sustained blunt force trauma to the left side of his head, was unconscious and not breathing,” Hastings said, noting that life-saving measures were attempted by both police and paramedics but they were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police that they saw the victim speaking to another man near 13th and K streets earlier in the day.
