Cop, prisoners hurt in crash with red-light runner

Cop CrashSAN DIEGO — A detention officer hired by the city of Chula Vista was taking two prisoners to jail when he was involved in a downtown crash with another motorist, San Diego police officials said Thursday.

The crash at Fourth Avenue and Ash Street happened about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

Ala Jamachi told Fox 5 that he ran a red light and hit the officers car. Witnesses say he was driving around 50 miles per hour.

The officer involved in the crash complained of shoulder pain. He and the two prisoners were  taken to the hospital to be checked out for injuries, Cali said.

The other driver appeared unhurt, he said.
