SAN DIEGO — A drunken 22-year-old man in a Mitsubishi was racing another driver when he lost control of the car and crashed into the kitchen of a Nestor-area home Tuesday, police said.

The suspect, whose name was being withheld, lost control of a speeding 2001 Mitsubishi that was headed west on Leon Avenue and crashed into the side of a house on Thelborn Way shortly before 3 a.m., police said.

Property owner David Egger described what one of his tenants told him.

“She heard crying and screaming, and apparently the driver was pretty frantic and saying, `I’m gonna go to jail,”’ Egger said, adding that the motorist “seemed to have some remorse (about) what was going on.”

The driver was taken to UCSD Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries and have his blood drawn; he was expected to be booked on suspicion of drunken driving and racing.

Lt. Kevin Mayer said the other racer, whom police tracked down, was cited on suspicion of the same crimes. His name also was withheld.
