knife-webSAN DIEGO — A 34-year-old man was in custody Friday on suspicion of stabbing two security guards as they escorted him out of a homeless services facility in Barrio Logan, police said.

The stabbings outside the Alpha Project in the 1600 block of Newton Avenue were reported at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford. A 48-year-old guard was stabbed in his lower chest and his 35-year-old colleague was stabbed in his foot, he said in a statement.

Paramedics took both guards to a local trauma center to treat their wounds, Stafford said, noting both were expected to survive.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
