Bank robbery suspect doesn’t get far

Bank Robbery Mira MesaSAN DIEGO — A man who allegedly used a demand note to rob a Mira Mesa credit union Friday was arrested a short time later during a traffic stop.

The holdup at the Navy Federal office in the 10800 block of Black Mountain Road was reported about 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

The bandit fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a gray SUV, SDPD Sgt. Ray Battrick said.

With help from personnel aboard a police helicopter, patrol officers caught up with the suspect’s vehicle and pulled it over on Mira Mesa Boulevard, near Camino Ruiz. The driver, 42-year-old Steven Sconberg, was arrested on suspicion of robbery, the sergeant said.
