HalloweenSAN DIEGO — Halloween fun begins in downtown San Diego today with the return of the Haunted Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter and the Haunted Trail in Balboa Park.

The Haunted Hotel at 424 Market St. is scheduled to open at 6 p.m., while the Haunted Trail along Balboa Drive near Juniper Street is set to kick off its 2013 season at 7 p.m.

Visitors to the Haunted Hotel take an average 15-20 minutes to stroll through the spooky establishment, while costumed characters attempt to scare them.

The Haunted Trail is a mile-long trek through a darkened section of Balboa Park; it promises to scare visitors with surprise encounters.

The same company puts on both events annually. This year’s events will run through Nov. 2. Tickets for each start at $15 and can be purchased at hauntedhotel.com.
