A Ford F-150 pickup truck was attempting to cross from Mexico to San Diego at 5 a.m. Tuesday when a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer’s canine was alerted to the vehicle, CBP said.
Inspection officers uncovered 23 wrapped packages of cocaine hidden in the spare tire and an additional 20 wrapped packages in a compartment hidden within the toolbox that was affixed to the bed of the truck, according to CBP. The confiscated drugs weighed almost 113 pounds.
The 28-year-old man driving the truck was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center. He is a U.S. citizen and resident of Tijuana.
