SAN DIEGO – Carlsbad native Summer Ross enjoyed a great weekend on the sand winning the AVP pro beach volleyball tournament in Cincinnati.
Ross and her partner Emily Day entered the tournament as the 14th seed after playing their way in through the Friday qualifier.
On their way to the title, Ross and Day beat three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh-Jennings and her new partner Whitney Pavlik – twice – including in the finals (21-15, 21-11).
The 20-year-old Ross graduated from Carlsbad Seaside Academy, an alternative school. She currently is a student-athlete at Pepperdine University and plays on their sand volleyball team.
