La Jolla Motel Shooting LA JOLLA, Calif. — A man was shot in the hand and pistol-whipped multiple times at motel in Bird Rock Tuesday.

The shooting at the La Jolla Biltmore Motel at 5385 La Jolla Boulevard was reported to police shortly after 5:30 p.m., San Diego Police Lt. Mark Bennett said. It took place in room 11.

“An acquaintance of the victim barged into the room while three of them were in there and pistol whipped the victim multiple times in the head,” said Lt. Bennett. “As he was pistol whipping the victim the gun went off and struck the victim in the hand. The suspect then fled with his girlfriend.”

Lt. Bennett said police were searching for a gold Ford Explorer. He wouldn’t release the name of the suspect, but said he was approximately 25 to 30 years old.

The victim, approximately 25 years old, was taken to Scripps La Jolla hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to Lt. Bennett.

Police believe this was a personal incident between the victim and suspect and Lt. Bennett said he did not think the public was in any danger. He said the suspect is facing assault with a deadly weapon at a minimum.
