Mission Beach SignSAN DIEGO – A crash into a natural gas meter severed a line in Mission Beach, prompting public safety authorities to evacuate nearby buildings and close the road Tuesday afternoon.

The non-injury crash on Isthmus Court near Mission Boulevard was reported shortly after 1 p.m., and fire personnel and San Diego Gas & Electric were dispatched to pinch off the leak and repair the meter, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Authorities evacuated buildings on the north side of Isthmus Court, between Mission Boulevard and Bayside Lane, according to a San Diego Fire- Rescue Department dispatcher.

Isthmus Court was closed in the immediate area as well, she said.

The fire department lifted the evacuation order by 3:20 p.m., but it was unknown how long it would take to repair the damaged gas line.
