2 firefighters injured battling Lakeside fire

LAKESIDE, Calif. – Two firefighters were injured while battling a brush fire in Lakeside that forced authorities to evacuate homes Tuesday, authorities said.

The fire quickly spread through brush in the 12900 block of Interstate 8 Business was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Lakeside FireAccording to the Lakeside Fire Protection District, a medical unit has been requested to an area off Aurora Drive.

Both firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and were transported to Grossmont Hospital, authorities told Fox5.

Sheriff’s officials evacuated homes on Amelia Drive, according to the Lakeside Fire Protection District. Additional structures were threatened on Lavala, Flaven and Cindy Lynn lanes, authorities said.

The fire was contained within an hour after blackening around 18 acres.  No structures were damaged, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
