Participants peddled along a 5.2-mile route closed off to traffic starting at 10 a.m.  The route started t 38th and Wightman Streets in Golden Hill and went through North Park and South Park and ended at Cherokee Point Elementary School in City Heights.

Around 10,000 people were expected to attend the “bicycle holiday.”

The goal, said Andy Hanshaw of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, is to start “a new way of thinking about the streets we share.”
