SAN DIEGO – A woman dressed in a burka attempted to rob a National City bank Thursday, authorities said.

A maroon burka covered a woman who approached a bank teller window with a demand note at a Wells Fargo Bank at 1199 Highland Avenue, FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth said.

“The teller read a portion of the demand note and then alerted another bank employee to what was happening,” Foxworth said. “The teller then took a position of concealment.”

The teller, who was behind a protective glass barrier, did not give the woman with any money, he said.

After a few seconds, the woman walked out of the bank making sure her face was covered by the burka.

The suspect was 5-feet, 6-inches tall, in her 20s or 30s with olive complexion and heavy eye makeup.  She wore a burka and light or white shoes.

Anyone with information about the incident should call FBI at 858-320-1800 or Crime Stoppers at 888-540-8477.
