Gas leak prompts evacuations in Lemon Grove

LEMON GROVE, Calif. – Residents were evacuated from their Lemon Grove homes Tuesday evening following a report of a gas leak, a sheriff’s deputy confirmed.

sheriffA gas leak caused several homes to be evacuated near the 7100 block of Mt. Vernon Street around 8 p.m., a Heartland Fire Department dispatcher said. The leak was contained within a short period of time.

San Diego Gas and Electric crews were at the location to determine the cause of the leak.

Officials allowed residents to return to their homes by 9 p.m.
