SAN DIEGO – A large plume of smoke from several brush fires filled the air over a remote area of Mexico and was visible from San Diego County Tuesday evening.

Several fires burning southeast of Otay Mesa, south of the US-Mexico border around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, CalFire officials said.

Although the blazes have not crossed the border and there is no threat in the county, CalFire had several fire engines stationed at the border as a precaution.
