IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. — A SWAT team was called to Imperial Beach Friday after someone fired shots at a deputy, authorities said.

The gunfire was reported at 1385 Holly Ave. near 14th Street at about 8:30 a.m. A deputy was assaulted by a man while investigating a report of domestic violence, according to deputies. The man had barricaded himself into an apartment and was threatening to shoot officers and police dogs if they attempted to enter, but it was not known for sure if he was armed, deputies said.

Helicopter video showed numerous Sheriff’s vehicles deployed around a two-story apartment building. Deputies could be seen interviewing residents and walking around outside of the apartment building.

SWAT TruckWitnesses told Fox 5 that a Sheriff’s helicopter had circled the neighborhood broadcasting a suspect description. The man was described as being 6 feet 1 inch tall, heavily tattooed and wearing a blue shirt and blue pants.
