SAN DIEGO — A 29-year-old man was killed and his 15-year-old female passenger was seriously injured when he drove off state Route 94 and into a palm tree, investigators said.

The accident near F Street and Glendale Avenue in the Golden Hill area of San Diego was reported at 7:38 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man, who was traveling west in a white Acura Integra, rolled the car onto its top before striking the tree, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office reported. He died at the scene.

Paramedics took the teen to UCSD Medical Center with major injuries after extricating her from the mangled car, CHP Officer Jake Sanchez said.

San Diego police said the man, who was part of a caravan, veered off the road after two vehicles in front of him were involved in a rear-ending accident. The other two vehicles were also part of the caravan.
