Death on North County beach called ‘suspicious’

crime-sceneCARLSBAD, Calif. — A man in his 20s died after being found in distress on a Carlsbad beach early Friday, according to police, who released few details but called the death “suspicious.”

Officers were called to the area of Ocean Street and Beech Avenue about 5:40 a.m., according to a Carlsbad police statement.

Once there, they found bystanders on the beach trying to help the man, who was eventually taken by paramedics to Tri-City Medical Center, police said. He was pronounced dead at short time later.

“The police department began a comprehensive investigation into the suspicious death,” police said in their statement. “Additional details are under investigation. The male’s identity is currently unknown.”
