Sea lion wanders onto freeway ramp

SAN DIEGO — A sea lion wandered onto a freeway on-ramp and stayed there for about an hour before being rescued Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It happened on the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5 around 6 a.m.

Officers from both CHP and San Diego Police arrived on the scene a short time later.

Animal experts from SeaWorld San Diego responded.

Around 6:50 a.m., animal control officers managed to wrangle the pup into a vehicle so it could be transported to SeaWorld San Diego to be evaluated, San Diego police said.

No traffic delays were reported.
