SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Better Business Bureau is warning consumers against truck and car rental companies accused of ripping people off.

One of the companies’ accused of misbehaving is A+ Truck and Car Rental, which ironically has an F rating from the BBB.

Screen Shot 2013-05-16 at 9.59.43 PM“You think you’re getting this great deal for $29 a day for a car, but it really ends up being $60 a day or $70 a day,” said CEO at San Diego BBB Sheryl Reichert. “We’ve seen card charges even after consumers didn’t take the vehicle, or it was hard to get a hold of someone, they were told they couldn’t get a refund, so a lot of billing and collection issues.”

The front desk employee of A+ Truck and Car Rental claims the company, which also shows up online as Economy Rental car, changed names and is now called Airport Car Rental, even though there’s no signage on its premises with that name.

“I’m trying to fix that with Google,” said the employee.

We also couldn’t get a straight answer as to exactly when the name change occurred.

First she said, “Yes like about a year,” on another occasion she said, “we’ve been here for about three years.”

The woman employee also told Fox 5 she had no knowledge of any complaints.

“It’s not unusual for businesses to operate under a DBA a doing business as,” said Reichert, who stressed companies with multiple names can often be a red flag for consumers.
