LAKESIDE, Calif. — A wildfire burned swaths of brushy back country north of Barona Casino Monday afternoon, forcing a road closure but causing no reported structural damage or injuries.

Lakeside Brush FireThe blaze began spreading near Featherstone Canyon Road shortly after 3 p.m., driven by gusty winds, according to Cal Fire. Within an hour, the burn area had grown to about a dozen acres as ground crews and personnel aboard firefighting aircraft worked to subdue the flames, said Nick Schuler, a battalion chief with the state agency.

The blaze, which may have erupted at a shooting range, prompted the closure of a stretch of Wildcat Canyon Road south of San Vicente Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

By 4:30 p.m., crews had the fire contained at roughly 15 acres.

The cause was under investigation, Schuler said.

Real quick about getting this on the web. Updating… Not so much. How about being timely when the road is closed and when it is reopened… Only if you want us to actually read your rag. Otherwise, I can promise not to waste my time with it…
