arrestHORTON PLAZA – A 57-year-old man suspected of robbing a bank who was seen leaving in a cab, and was later arrested.

The man, identified as Andrew Giles, entered Citibank at 755 Broadway Circle in Horton Plaza at 12:24 p.m. and gave a demand note to a teller, San Diego Police officer Frank Cali said.

“Giles was given an undisclosed amount of money and was seen getting into a cab and leaving northbound on Broadway Circle,” Cali said.

Cali said the Association for Better Living and Education (ABLE), a nonprofit that works to combat drugs and crime, assisted in locating the cab, which was stopped by police on southbound state Route 125.

“Giles was detained and then positively identified by employees of the bank,” Cali said. Giles was held for suspicion of bank robbery, Cali said.

Cali said Giles matched the description of two previous bank robberies.

The incident remains under investigation.
