An 18-year-old woman was distracted after a cup fell from the center console onto the floor and slammed into a fire hydrant, then a mother and her three daughters at 62nd and Acorn Street around 4:20 p.m., San Diego police said.
Bystanders rushed to help the victims and lifted the car from a 6-year-old girl who was trapped underneath, paramedics said.
“It was tough,” said paramedic Bryan Powell. “It was complete chaos.”
All four victims were transported to the hospital with injuries, but police said they are expected to be okay.
The driver of the BMW had three passengers, including a child. None of them were injured.
Police said the driver was cited for not having a license, but she will not be charged. Alcohol did not play a role in the accident, neither did speed, according to police.
