SAN DIEGO — Police are warning residents in the Golden Hill neighborhood after two women were attacked in their own homes.

The first incident happened on March 10 in the 2400 block of E Street. A woman was raped in her home by a stranger. The woman could not give a detailed physical description of her attacker, but she was able to help investigators develop a composite drawing of his face, Lt. Chuck Kaye said.

GoldenHillRapeSuspectThe second attack happened on April 14 in the 2400 block of Broadway. A woman woke up to find a man choking her. She struggled and was able to fight him off, Kaye said.

“She said the guy was in her room and it became physical,” said neighbor Rhoads Osbourne.  He heard a loud noise coming from his apartment complex and he woke up to investigate.

“It was enough for me to start pounding on the door,” he said.

The suspect ran out the victim’s back door and perhaps into a car that was in the back alley.  Witnesses heard a car speed off and a security camera captured images of a light-colored four-door sedan with tinted windows.

Kaye described the suspect in the second attack as a dark-skinned man, 5-feet 8-inches tall, 160 pounds with pock marked cheeks. He spoke with a foreign accent.

“Anytime someone breaks into a home and people are home and they are attacked, it’s alarming,” said Kaye.  “We want to catch this guy as soon as possible.”

Golden Hill neighbors said they’re taking measures to stay safe. Kathy Cook’s window overlooks the alley and she plans to close her window at night so no one can come in.

Police have not found any evidence linking the two suspects, but because of the proximity and similarity of the two attacks, they have not ruled out a connection, Kaye said.
